Virgil Van Dijk, born in Breda of Netherland on July 8 1991, is currently playing as a center back at the same club as No. 10 Player Sadio Mane and No. 9 Mohamed Salah, Premier League club Liverpool, as well as the captain of the Netherlands national team.
Van Dijk started his football career at Willem II, and after one season Martin Koeman working for FC Groningen at the time scouted him and achieved a free transfer to the club in 2010; Van Dijk substituted Petter Andersson to make his professional debut at the match against Ado Den Haag in May 2011, assisting the team to defeat the opponent in a 4-2 way. On 1 September 2015, Van Dijk signed a five-year contract with Southampton, a Premier League club managed by Ronald Koeman, at a reported transfer fee of 13 million pounds. He made his debut at Southampton on 12 September in a 0-0 way against West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns. Two weeks later, Van Dijk scored his first goal for the club at his third appearance in the Premier League, and on 22 January 2017, he was appointed to be the captain of Southampton after the departure of José Fonte. Following his successful performance during the season of 2016-17 for Southampton, Van Dijk came under the spotlight of Liverpool, who reportedly apologized for no official approach to Southampton, after he had made clear his interest in a move to Liverpool.
Then on 7th August 2017, Van Dijk submitted a transfer request to Southampton, and issued a statement expressing his desire to join another club. At the start of the 2017-18 season, he defeated Leicester by 4-1 at home field in his final appearance for Southampton on 13 December 2017, and in the same month, it was announced that Van Dijk would join Liverpool in the winter of 1 January 2018 at a reported fee of 75 million pounds, which set a new highest transfer fee record for both Liverpool and the World Football League Defenders, but later broken by Maguire from Manchester United.
Van Dijk made his debut for Liverpool in the third round of the FA Cup on 5 January 2018 and scored with a header to defeat the local rival Everton in a 2-1 way. He also became the first player to score on his debut in the Merseyside Derby since Bill White in 1901. In the season of 2018-19, a string of outstanding performances helped Van Dijk win the Premier League's PFA Best Player of the Month Award in November and December 2018 successively. In 2019, he also won a number of awards, including the title of UEFA Best Player in Europe, and becoming the first defender to win this award in 13 years. In the 2019-20 season, Van Dijk scored five goals throughout the season, setting a new level for his personal goals scored in a single season of Premier League.
Van Dijk is good at the skills on how to judge the timing and wait for the right moment to attack the opponent. He is of great stature, high agility agile and quick speed, making great impression in both defense and attack.
Regarded as the best defender in the world football and the second-best player in the Premier League, Virgil van Dijk still keeps his rating of 90 in FUT 21 as a key of Liverpool in dominance of Premier League.
